No-exam life insurance

Who may skip an exam, how the process functions, and your options if you do not meet the criteria.

Many carriers provide accelerated underwriting: for qualifying applicants, they approve or decline using the application form, pharmacy records, driving history, and other databases in place of a physical exam. Decisions sometimes arrive within a day. Every quote indicates whether that carrier will require, might require, or will skip an exam.

What it changes

Forgoing an exam does not skip underwriting review. Your answers get verified, and a policy issued based on false information can be challenged for two years. If the carrier's research uncovers concerns, it may request an exam or labs anyway, at which point you decide whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Generally applicants under approximately 60, seeking amounts within the carrier's threshold, with a clean health record and no tobacco use for a year or more qualify. Recent lab work from a doctor visit may suffice instead of an exam.

If an exam is required, it typically means a 20- to 30-minute appointment with a paramedic at your home or office in the La Verne region, free of charge. Favorable results frequently boost your rating, so an exam can work in your favor.
